What's protected, and what isn't
- Your phone number is never shown on the page or in the chat.
- Messages are encrypted in transit and stored encrypted. They are not end-to-end encrypted, because a visitor with no account has no device key yet. The chat says so on both sides.
- To keep spam out, each visitor can start a limited number of new chats per hour, and each line has an hourly cap. You can also pause your line at any moment.
Questions
Does the person messaging me need an account?
No. They open your link, type a name (if you ask for one) and a message, and they're chatting. Behind the scenes they get a temporary guest chat, which they can turn into a real account whenever they like.
What happens when they tap “Keep this chat”?
They enter their email and confirm a code we send — the same sign-in used across Koligly. Their conversation with you moves into that account, unchanged. If they already have an account, it moves into that one.
Where do the messages appear for me?
In your normal chat list, like any other conversation, and you get a push notification if you've turned them on. Your dashboard lists every Open Line chat and which ones are waiting for your reply.
Can I stop people from using it?
Yes. Turn the line off with one switch and the link shows a “paused” message. You can also rename the link, which stops the old one from working.
Does it cost anything?
Creating and using an Open Line is free.
